Jamie Gunderson returns to the Christopher Newport sidelines for his fourth year in 2015, marking the second year as a full-time assistant coach.
Gunderson was elevated to the full-time position in the Spring of 2014 after helping guide CNU to 12- and 14-win seasons in his first two years on the sideline. He has helped guide the Captains to back-to-back regular season conference titles and at-large NCAA Tournament berths in his tenure under head coach Dan Weiler.
In addition to his time with the Captains, Gunderson has spent four years coaching with the Virginia Legacy Soccer Club. He also excelled as an athlete both collegiately and in the professional ranks.
A four-year starter for Methodist, Gunderson starred on the field and also represented the Monarchs on the USA South All-Sportsmanship team. Following his collegiate career, he competed professionally as a member of the Norfolk Sharx in the Major Indoor Soccer League.
Erin Wojtkun begins her fifth season as an assistant coach with the Christopher Newport women’s soccer program.
During her time on the sidelines, she has helped CNU post a 53-26-4 record for a .663 winning percentage. In conference action, the Captains have been even stronger, capturing three regular season championships on the way to a 30-5-1 mark.
In her first year on the staff, she helped Christopher Newport earn an NCAA Tournament berth while compiling a 16-5-1 record in 2010. That team also rolled to a pristine 9-0 mark in USA South play, marking the squad’s fifth undefeated season in league action.
Prior to joining the coaching ranks, Wojtkun was an award-winning goalkeeper for the Captains. A four-year standout from 2005-08, she was a three-time All-Conference selection and a two-time All-State pick. Making an immediate impact as a freshman, she earned first-team All-VaSID accolades while setting single-season program records with 11 shutouts and a 0.61 goals-agianst-average.
For her career, she holds the CNU record for shutouts (23) and goals against average (0.89). In over 5200 minutes of action, she earned 54 starts and accumulated 191 saves.
A native of Fairfax, Wojtkun graduated from CNU in 2009 with a degree in Psychology and a minor in Leadership. She also completed a Master’s Degree in Teaching in 2010.
Lindsay Wicher joins the CNU coaching staff for the first time in 2015, coming to the Captains after serving as Girls Director of Coaching at Newport News FC.
Wicher has been with NNFC since 2012 after graduating from the University of Richmond, where she started for three years. Wicher began her career as a starter at Santa Clara University before transferring to the Spiders back line. She played in 63 total games, making 49 career starts and finishing her career as a defender with two goals and three assists.
Wicher is currently an elementary school teacher in York County. She is a nationally licensed coach by the National Soccer Coaches Association of America.
